Shower Breech Test

We recently conducted a shower breech test for a customer.

For this, we test between the taps and the shower outlet to see if the pressure drops using a pressure gage. If we see a pressure drop we then investigate and pin point where the leak is, explaining why the shower wall is wet. If we do not see a pressure drop occurring, we then engage one of our grout experts to re-seal the shower unit.

The outcome of this paricular shower breech test was that it was in fact a waterproofing and grout issue.

The shower breech section of pipework is not under constant pressure as the water is held behind the tap valves either side.

When you have a shower and operate the taps the water mixes and discharges from your shower head. The fluctuating water temperatures in this section of pipework causes expansions and contractions. Over time this increases the wear and tear on pipework, which can result in a leak.

If you think you may have a shower leak and need it detected, you need to get it looked at as soon as possible. Water can cause significant damage and the longer the leak is left the more damage it will cause. Ignoring a shower leak can also cause mould growth and even structural damage.
